Hello, I'm George, and this is my story of living with an ostomy.
My Journey
Table of Contents
In 2013, my life took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer in the early stage 3 phase.
What followed was an intense battle: 27 radiation treatments, major colon surgery, and 5 months of biweekly chemotherapy treatments.
I am proud to say that I am a survivor
However, my health journey didn't end there.
In 2023, I underwent surgery for a butt hernia. Then, in November 2024, I experienced a colon blockage that necessitated major ostomy hernia reconstruction surgery.
Along this path, I've also discovered that 50% of my bladder was destroyed by the radiation treatments I received back in 2013.

About My Ostomy Is
My Life Has Been Transformed
Living with an ostomy has been transformative, but the longer I live with it, the more I realize that while it changed many aspects of my life, it didn't change everything.
Why I Created "My Ostomy Is"
The past 11 years have been a profound learning experience—first about myself, and second about living with an ostomy.
I've now reached a point where I can competently care for and live with my ostomy. But that wasn't always the case.
The Start Of My Journey
When I first began this journey, I found myself navigating unfamiliar territory. I had to learn through trial and error or spend hours researching to find answers to my questions.
I was looking for ways to better cope with my new reality, and since I had been working online since my cancer year, creating this blog seemed like a natural fit.
I believe there are others out there like me—people who were suddenly plunged into similar situations and are looking for a ray of hope.
My goal is to share my experiences and advice to make this road a little less confusing for someone else.
If I can accomplish that, then all my efforts will have been worthwhile.

My Foundation
I feel compelled to share the biggest reason for any success I've had in adjusting to life with an ostomy: my faith in God as my creator and in Jesus as my Savior.
Plain and simple. At times, I will share aspects of my Christian walk with you on this journey.
I understand that this may not resonate with everyone, and some may choose not to return. That's okay—I respect your choice.
But I do believe that some people need to hear about my spiritual journey alongside my physical one, and I pray that sharing my complete story might help you in even the smallest way.
It would be my honor to be part of your journey, offering what I've learned to make your path a little easier.
Thank you for visiting "My Ostomy Is." I hope you find encouragement, practical advice, and a sense of community here.
